LAHORE, July 16: Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said the government is keen to prepare implementable legislation for protection of children's rights.

He was speaking at a meeting held here on Friday to discuss provision of health care facilities and child welfare. The meeting was attended by representatives of NGOs and donor agencies and the officials concerned.

The minister said the government would extend all-out encouragement to institutions engaged in practical efforts for the care and upbringing of oppressed children.

He said the government was also working on a project to upgrade the status of Children's Hospital and convert it into a real tertiary care institution for children.

He said a public awareness campaign would also be launched through media for highlighting the problems of neglected and oppressed children and those living in far-flung areas.
