KARACHI, July 16: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that all the residential schemes lying abandoned would be completed on priority basis so that low and middle class people could have their own residences.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Malir Development Authority's Taisar Town project on Friday, he said that the Taisar Town and Scheme-33 would be completed as soon as possible.

Dr Ibad said that the Taisar Town project was lying idle for the last 18 years and appreciated the MDA for making progress in this project. He said that the town would provide at least 32,000 families with residences.

The adviser on local bodies, Wasim Akhtar, said that scores of people migrating to Karachi for employment was the major cause of increase in kutchi abadis. He observed that such housing projects would help in controlling these slums.

Additional chief secretary Mohammad Saleem Khan said that no housing scheme had been introduced in Karachi since 1980. Taisar Town Housing Scheme includes 15,790 plots of 80 yards, 15,290 plots of 120 yards, 2,780 plots of 240 yards and 1,630 plots of 400 yards.
