ISLAMABAD, July 15: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday protested to the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports over what it said was "intemperate" language used by a senator against the top officials of the board.
A PCB press release said that chairman Shahryar M. Khan had spoken to the head of the committee, senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, on the matter. The release said that the chairman did not wish to dignify the remarks by responding to them.
Senator Muhammad Enver Baig on Wednesday had warned PCB of a "bumpy ride" if they did not cooperate fully with the committee in its probe into the affairs of the board and the causes that led to Pakistan's defeat to India in March-April.
Enver had also alleged that gross irregularities were being committed within the PCB and that anyone found guilty would be sent to the National Accountability Bureau or to jail.
However, Shahryar on Thursday assured Zafar of his fullest cooperation in the probe which he said should be carried out in consonance with objectivity instead of appearing in the form of a McCarthyesque witch-hunt.
A meeting of the standing committee is slated for Monday in Islamabad for which Shahryar, PCB's chief executive Ramiz Raja and chief selector Wasim Bari have been summoned. Former coach Javed Miandad under whom Pakistan lost the one-day series 2-3 and the Tests 1-2, is also likely to make an appearance.
