HARIPUR: Three killed, nine injured in accidents

HARIPUR, July 15: Three people, including a minor girl, were killed and nine others injured in two different road accidents here on Wednesday evening.

Police said Haji Mohammad Nazir and his 17-year old son, Adnan Nazir were killed after the motorbike on which they were travelling was hit by an Abbottabad-bound truck (IDS 1977) near Shah Mohammad village situated along the GT road.

Witnesses to the accident told the police that the accident occurred after the motorcyclists tried to save themselves from another motorcar wrongly overtaking their vehicle.

In another road accident, a Mansehra-bound bus (5221 XP) rammed into a vehicle (LOT 4676) killing a minor girl, Anees Bibi, and injuring nine others near Daidan village along the GT Road some 12 kilometres from here.

The bus was reported to have originated from Lahore. The injured included Abdullah, Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Amin, Abdul Rehman, and Abdul Wahid. Meanwhile the Khanpur police are said to have arrested Mohammad Riaz belonging to Dhibian village near Taxila and recovered 750 grammes of opium from his possession. The accused is reported to have told the police that he had been involved in drug trafficking for the past several years.
