KARACHI, July 14: Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday ordered quashment of a case against Dr Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, who married another doctor of his tribe in a free will marriage.

Representing the couple, Advocate Syed Iqbal Haider earlier submitted that Dr Ghulam Mustafa Solangi and Dr Amnat Solangi married at Moro, their hometown, but were hounded out by the latter's relatives.

They took shelter in Karachi but Mir Mohammad Solangi, who is related to Dr Amnat, got a kidnapping case registered against her husband and his brothers, including an army major posted at the Okara cantonment.

The case was consigned to record by the police after a preliminary inquiry but tribal influentials got it revived. They declared the couple 'karo kari' liable to be put to death.

The couple, the counsel submitted, was unable to pursue their remedy before the trial court as they apprehended murder at the hands of their tormentors if they appeared for quashment. He said they still feared they and their relatives would be attacked by Dr Amnat's brothers. The court ordered that the couple and their kin be provided protection by police.
