KARACHI, July 14: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui ordered change of entire staff of police stations if proved ineffective in combating crimes and action against the respective TPO and the SHO.

The minister issued such directives during a meeting with the members of provincial assembly belonging to the Muttahida Majlis- i-Amal and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement from Baldia, Orangi and SITE towns at his office on Wednesday.

The MPAs included Maulana Umer Sadiq, Hafiz Muhammad Naeem of the MMA, Abdul Qudoos, Hameedullah Khan, Iqbal Qadir and Abdul Sattar Ansari of the MQM. Additional Chief Secretary Home, Anwar Haider; Town Nazim Orangi, Shaikh Muhammad Feroz; IG Police Syed Kamal Shah, CCPO Tariq Jamil, DIG Operations Fayyaz Leghari and TPOs of the three towns also attended the meeting.

Rauf Siddiqui called for evolving a joint strategy by the provincial legislators, town nazims and police force for swift action against the criminals in their respective areas.

To a proposal regarding formation of peace committees, he said that such peace committees must comprise members of assembly, town nazims and police officials that could hold weekly meetings to sort out the problems and take preventive measures for controlling the crimes.

The minister was informed that owing to lack of vehicles, police felt handicapped to combat the crimes. On this complaint, Rauf Siddiqui directed to make arrangements for police mobiles and ensure provision of motorcycles for patrolling.

He said that the policemen showing good performance would be awarded and given incentives to work hard and honestly. Taking serious notice of the issue of National Identity Cards in Orangi Town, the minister said that he would talk to senior officials of NADRA and strive for the establishment of swift centre in the town.

When Maulana Umer Sadiq narrated the problems faced by people of his area, Rauf Siddiqui directed the police officials to take immediate steps for solving these problems. Besides, he said that a line of action be chalked out to meet with any possible threat. -PPI/APP
