QUETTA, July 14: Honour killings must be treated intentional murders and culprits should be convicted and punished. This was recommended by a seminar held here on Tuesday under the auspices of Aurat Publication and Information Service Foundation.
The seminar was presided over by the Younas Khalid. MNA Bilqis Saeed, MPAs Shafique Ahmed and Rehmat Ali baloch, Dr Shah Mohammad Marri, representatives of women organizations, political leaders, lawyers and media persons also expressed their views in the seminar.
The objective of the seminar was to suggest the legislative recommendations after examining the laws dealing with honour killings. The speakers said that this cruel custom was contrary to the religion and law that should not be permitted under any circumstances as no body had the right to take the life of anybody in the name of honour.
ARREST SOUGHT: Ward 51 Nazim Syed Abdul Wahid Agha has criticized the police for not arresting docoits who are busy looting people in the Muslimabad area of the city.
Speaking at a press conference held at the press club here on Tuesday he said that a gang of dacoits had looted at least four houses during the last one week, and lukewarm response of the police had further encouraged them.
Flanked by the elders of Muslimabad, Sheikhmandh, Killi Gul Mohammad and Alamo Chowk areas, the nazim said that a few days back the dacoits entered into the house of Haji Nazar Gul in the Muslimabad area.
On facing resistance they opened fire killing Abdul Wahab and fled with cash and valuables. Fearing no action from the police the gang on July 9 tried to loot the house of Haji Mohammad Akhbar in the Sheikhmandh area, but upon fierce resisitance from the residents the dacoits escaped, the nazim claimed. He urged the government to increase police patrolling and issue arm licences to the people for self-defence.
