HYDERABAD: Union seeks support of opposition: Strike against IRO 2002

HYDERABAD, July 14: The National Labour Federation, Sindh, has appealed to National Assembly and Senate members to support its countrywide strike call against the Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002, and the Compulsory Retirement Ordinance, 2000.

In a memorandum submitted to the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal parliamentary leader Qazi Hussain Ahmad, People's Party Parliamentarians president Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan and others, Sindh NLF president Rana Mehmood Ali Khan called upon the leaders to raise their voice in support of workers and against what he called anti-workers' ordinances.

The NLF leader also sent copies of the memorandum to Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Federal Information Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmad. He expressed the hope that members of parliament would move resolutions against the two ordinances at next sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate.

INCOME TAX: The commissioner, Income Tax, Hyderabad zone, on Wednesday notified that counters had been established at Income Tax buildings, located in Civil Lines and GOR Colony, Hyderabad, to receive statements of tax deductions on July 15. He advised people concerned to ensure timely filing of statements on prescribed forms to avoid action.

RECRUITMENT: The Army Selection and Recruitment Centre here on Wednesday announced that except for gazetted holidays, recruitment in the army would continue at the centre up to July 30.

RETIRED EMPLOYEES: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has summoned a meeting of nazims of City, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas and administrative officers at his secretariat on July 16 to discuss the issue of pensions and gratuity of retired employees of the defunct Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
