ISLAMABAD: Improvement in police, judiciary work stressed

ISLAMABAD, July 14: A two-day workshop on Fiscal Management in District Government began under the aegis of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) here on Wednesday.
The aim of this workshop is to analyse the aspects of corruption in the district's present governance and fiscal management scenario and the meaningful solutions under the new devolution process, says a press release. This workshop is part of the awareness and public participatory strategy adopted by the NAB towards the eradication of corruption.
Speaking on the occasion, National Reconstruction Bureau chairman Daniyal Aziz dwelt on the new political devolutionary process introduced three years ago on the recommendations of the Bureau. He said the social changes during the past years led to the gradual deterioration of the public sector and its service delivery mechanisms.
APP ADDS: Mr Aziz said: "We must emphasize on improving our transaction cost sector, like police, revenue and tax sector, land administration and district judiciary."
He added that these sectors should be first and highest priority. The NRB chairman said these areas were essential to exert the authority of the state to maintain equilibrium for other organs of the government to function.
The Lahore district Nazim, Mian Amir Mahmood, focused his presentation on the comparative analysis of the old and new district governance systems. He gave a rundown on the major sectors, starting from education, works and services sector, the provision of civic amenities and the fiscal changes that had been brought about by the new ordinance and the financial problems.
