Five killed in Taliban raids

KABUL, July 13: Taliban guerillas, who have vowed to disrupt Afghanistan's Oct 9 election, launched several raids across the south and east and five people were killed, including a police commander, officials said on Tuesday.

There is little sign of the violence abating in Afghanistan, where the United States is hoping for a foreign policy success story ahead of its own presidential election in November. -Reuters
