KHAIRPUR, July 13: Six unidentified armed men, posing as passengers, held up at gunpoint the driver of a Bahawalnagar-bound coach near Ranipur late on Sunday night, took control of the vehicle and robbed the passengers.

Depriving the passengers of valuables, including cash and gold ornaments, the robbers stopped the transport near Babarloi and fled. Later, the passengers took the coach to the Babarloi police station where they said that they suspected that driver Mureed Hussain Mirbahar and cleaner Altaf Hussain were involved in the robbery.

The police registered a case against six accused, including the driver and the cleaner, on the complaint of a passenger, Jehanzeb, and arrested the cleaner. However, the driver was allowed to take the coach along with the passengers to its destination.

FIR: Sub-engineer of the Gambat irrigation subdivision, Abdul Majeed Narejo, here on Monday lodged an FIR against two landowners with the Sobhodero police under the irrigation act.

The sub-engineer alleged in his FIR that while checking the Faiz Nahar Wah on Monday morning, he found landowners Mohammad Afzal Chaudhary and Illahi Bakhsh Tunio tampering with waterways No68-L and 70-AL in a bid to steal water for their lands.

SNATCHED: Five motorcycles were snatched from different parts of the district in separate incidents during the last 24 hours ending on Monday. Some unidentified armed men snatched a motorcycle from Mohammad Paryal Bhambhro on the National Highway near the Thehri Bridge.

In another incident, some three armed men robbed Mutahir Kandhero of his motorcycle in Pir Jillani village and fled. Meanwhile, a motorcycle was snatched from Abdul Razzaq Kandhero near Wali Mohammad Kandhero village. In yet another incident, two motorcycles were snatched from the jurisdiction of the Tando Masti police station.
