KHAIRPUR, July 11: A meeting held here on Sunday decided that a new judicial complex would be constructed on a vacant plot adjacent to the district and session court building.

The meeting also decided to take measures to preserve the historical district and sessions court building and called upon the Sindh culture department to declare the building as a protected monument.

The meeting was participated by Justice Attaur Rehman, Justice Maqbool Bakar, Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Arif Hussain Khilji of the Sindh High Court, district and session judge Nisar Mohammad Shaikh, District Nazim Nafisa Shah and District Bar Association president Syed Bachal Shah.

Later, the participants of the meeting visited the site. District Nazim Nafisa Shah suggested that occupants of about four government quarters should be given alternate residence.

It might be mentioned that the court building was constructed in 1918 by the then ruler of the Khairpur state, Mir Imam Bux Talpur, at the cost of Rs57,829 and was named as the Supreme Judicial Council building.

On June 10 this year, a team of archaeologists including senior conservation engineer, the department of archaeology and museum, Mohan Lal, and senior professor of the department of archeology Shah Abdul Latif University, Qazi Mukhtiar, had visited the building and recommended that it should be declared as a protected monument.
