HYDERABAD: Protest against water shortage

HYDERABAD, July 11: Residents of Latifabad here on Saturday held a demonstration and blocked a road by burning tyres in protest against acute shortage of potable water in the area.

Raising slogans against the Water and Sanitation Agency, the protesters complained that they had not received a drop of water since last week. Meanwhile, the Latifabad TPO rushed to the spot and provided them with water through tankers. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

ARRESTED: The Phulelli police arrested three alleged drug dealers following an exchange of fire in Sheraz Mohalla, Tando Mir Mohammad, here on Saturday, police said.

According to police, they received information about a narcotics den in the area and rushed to the place. On seeing police, the drug dealers opened fire which was returned. However, no one was injured.

Police arrested Zahid Hussain, Sango Sheedi and Ejaz Manganhar and recovered a large quantity of charas from their possession besides a pistol. However, four others, Ghulam Rasool Umrani, Khamiso Manganhar, Manzoor Umrani and an unidentified man, escaped, police said.

Six separate cases have been registered against the accused for possession of illegal arms and narcotics as well as obstruction of justice. In another raid, the Phulelli police arrested Asad, son of Zaheer Panhwar, from the Old Powerhouse and recovered 500gm of charas from his possession.

ROBBERY: Three armed men barged into the house of renowned scholar and broadcaster, Dr Ilyas Ishki, here on Saturday and robbed his daughter of a gold chain worth Rs10,000 and fled. One of Dr Ishki's neighbour informed Madadgar Police but they reached after the robbers had fled.
