KARACHI: Karo-kari to be eliminated soon - Ibad

KARACHI, July 9: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said that the heinous tradition of karo-kari (honour killing) would soon be eliminated from society and stressed community leaders and heads of all departments concerned to accelerate their efforts in this regard.

He was addressing a high-level meeting at Governor's House here on Friday. Provincial Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui, Additional Advocate-General Qazi Khalid Ali, Law Secretary Ghulam Nabi Shah and other high officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that several non-governmental organizations had been making efforts to put an end to this 'evil' tradition. Saying that elimination of karo-kari is his mission, the governor directed the authorities concerned to keep vigilance on all such incidents in the province and take maximum measures in fulfilling the legal obligations.

Dr Ibad urged political, social and community leaders to make efforts for creating awareness in this regard. The participants of the meeting said that the government's stance against karo-kari had been widely appreciated by the people throughout the country. -PPI
