LAHORE, July 8: The city cricket association action committee chairman, Aamir Hayat Khan Rokri, on Thursday rejected proposals suggested by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to resolve pending issues.
Rokri disclosed that the PCB had sent a letter to all the district cricket associations dated June 14 but which was received by them only on July 6. The PCB, he explained had agreed to provide financial assistance to the associations on monthly basis which was not acceptable.
He said that money being given was part of the associations's share of the gate money the PCB earned by holding the series against Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand and India.
"Thirty per cent of the total gate money is the right of the associations that should be paid in one instalment as the associations are not beggars to plead for their right every month," he thundered.
He pointed out that the PCB had paid around Rs 60 million to its top officials as daily allowances while a similar amount was enough to pay the district associations as their share of the gate money.
He stressed that the district associations were the real force of the game but the PCB was ignoring them deliberately. He further disclosed that the PCB had also proposed the appointment of a manager to maintain interaction among it and the associations. But, he said, that the action committee also rejected it.
"The associations are the real owners of the PCB and instead of talking to a low profile manager they will talk directly either to the chief executive or the chairman to discuss their problems," Rokri pledged.
He said the PCB admitted that it could not keep interaction with the district associations because of the home series against India. The chairman further said the PCB advised the associations to send their proposals about the new constitution to the constitutional committee secretary.
But Rokri stated that the general council was the only body to make the constitution and the action committee did not accept constitution committee. The constitution committee was formed in April but since it had failed to hold even a single meeting.
The committee is to prepare the constitution in four months, starting from the first meeting. About the appointment of the regional development officer, Rokri, however, said that the action committee could discuss this matter in its next meeting and could accept it if the post did not clash with the autonomous status of the district associations.
