PBF gets POA's blessings

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, July 7: Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has granted affiliation to the Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) resolving the long-standing issue of two parties each claiming itself a genuine body.

The PBF body headed by Saiyed Mohib Asad as president and Aamer Hayat Khan Rokhari as secretary has been recognised by the POA, according to a press release issued by the PBF on Wednesday.

The other group was headed by Sarfraz Ahmad who died early this year. The PBF secretary said that ever since his body came into being in July 2002 it sent teams abroad five times, organized two national and four All-Pakistan ranking tournaments.

It also conducted the SAF Games event successfully and the Pakistan men team also emerged as the second best team of the games. It defeated the world 40th ranked team Sri Lanka.

He said that now the federation was organizing the Pakistan Satellite International tournament in Islamabad from Nov 30 to Dec 4 which had been given A Grade status by the international body.
