HRCP asked to expose excesses - Oppression in Balochistan

QUETTA, July 6: Former chief minister and President of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), Sardar Akhtar Mengal, has sent a memorandum to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan calling for highlighting at international level what he described as excesses
, oppressions and injustices of the government against innocent people, particularly targeting nationalists in the province.
Sardar Mengal, accompanied by party's Secretary-General Habib Jalib Baloch and Information Secretary Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldani, delivered the memorandum on Monday to Tahir Mohammad Khan, Chairperson of the Balochistan HRCP and disclosed important points of the memorandum to the journalists.
The memorandum contents are related to the detention of political activists under MPO, registration of false FIRs in treason cases, implication of party workers in so-called subversive acts and denial by the law enforcement agencies to meet the activists in their custody.
The memorandum accused the government of the unlawful acts that aimed at forcing the party activists and other nationalist groups' members to abandon their principled stand for the national and political rights of the Baloch people.
It claimed that the Balochistan High Court division bench had while declaring the detention of Masood Jamaldani as unlawful ordered to release the detenu but the concerned law enforcement agency refused to free the citizen of Nushki.
Sardar Mengal also complained that when police and some other official agencies illegally picked up the party members from their houses they did not allow the family members to meet them, thus, violating the Constitution and fundamental rights.
Referring to the arrest of Mohammad Aslam Gurgnari of Khuzdar who has been implicated in the bomb blast in Gwadar, he claimed that he was innocent and had never been to Gwadar town yet the agencies had tortured him to 'confess' the crime.
BNP-M memorandum referred to the killing of Khan Mohammad Ghulamani of Khuzdar few years back who was arrested but later his body was found by a shepherd. It added that if courts or human rights organizations did not take notice of the unlawful arrests then Mr Masood Jamaldani might also meet the fate of the late Ghulamani.
The memorandum called upon the HRCP to raise its voice against the unlawful acts of the government to expose the rulers' who had not only denied the national, political and democratic rights to Balochs but the hapless people were harassed to abandon their struggle.
