KARACHI, July 6: Three men were killed in two separate armed encounters in the city on Tuesday. A suspect was shot dead in Garden, and two suspects were killed in what police claimed to be an encounter in the limits of the Samanabad police station.
A wanted suspect died and an associate of his were wounded in a shootout with police in the Garden area, police said on Tuesday. A pedestrian, Fida Husain, was also wounded in the crossfire.
Police said that a Hi-roof carrying five people was signalled to stop by DSP Amir Hameed of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell near the Garden Chowk. The suspects opened fire at the police, forcing them to retaliate.
Subsequently, Abdul Rehman died and his associate Qalandar Bux was wounded, and arrested. However, their other three accomplices escaped. Police said Abdul Rehman was wanted in several cases of murder and dacoity. Similarly, the wounded Qalandar Bux was also wanted by police.
Both suspects belonged to the Rehman Dakait group, the police added. The dead and the wounded were taken to the Civil Hospital by the police. Police said the Hi-roof used by the suspects was their own.
In the other incident, two suspects were shot dead and a policeman was wounded in an encounter in Al Noor, F.B. Area, on Tuesday night. Samanabad SHO Ghulam Fareed told Dawn that according to the initial investigations, the two suspects hired a taxi (PH-1397) for Al-Noor at Gulshan-i-Iqbal near Paradise Homes.
Police said that when the taxi reached near the RIG School in Al-Noor, one of the suspects sitting behind the driver took out a pistol and told driver Inam Bukhsh to give him the cash and valuables he had. Meanwhile, four policemen on two motorcycles rodetowards the taxi.
One of the suspects opened fire at the police, wounding constableFayyaz. The other three policemen returned fire, killing the two suspects, the SHO added. One of the suspects was identified as Mohammad Anwar from the identity card found on him.
However, the other suspect remained unidentified, police added. Their bodies were sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. Police claimed having recovered a TT pistol and some bullets.
'DOCTOR' SHOT DEAD: A doctor was shot dead by an unknown person in Ramaswami on Tuesday night. Police said Dr Mohammad Waseem was sitting in his Naeem Clinic in the Ramaswami area when the unknown man fired two bullets to his face and the other one to his chest.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. However, the Saddar Town TPO told Dawn that Dr Mohammad Waseem didn't have an MBBS degree and was just a quack.
