QUETTA, July 4: The Secretary-General of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, has demanded a probe into allotment of government land in Gwadar.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the JUI-F leader strongly opposed government's plan to establish army cantonments in Gwadar and Jiwani.

He said that the government had allotted 4,000 acres of land for establishing army cantonments in Gwadar and Jiwani. He said that the government should cancel this allotment of land, and funds allocated for the cantonments should be spent on the welfare of the people who were living below the poverty line.

The JUI leader alleged that thousands of acres of government land was allotted at a through-away price to influential people. He said that a probe should be conducted into the illegal allotment of government land.
