Wright wary of Pakistan, Lanka


ISLAMABAD, July 3: Coach John Wright says India will have to look out for Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the six-nations Asia Cup one-day cricket championship beginning in Sri Lanka from July 16.

Addressing the press on Saturday after the opening session of the final camp for 20 probables at Chennai, Wright said both Sri Lanka and Pakistan were playing matches after their lay-off, according to reports available here.

Wright said the camp would focus on cricketing skills. "For the next three days, it will be batting, bowling and fielding skills."

The probables will also play a practice match, he added.

Wright, who will incidentally be accompanying the Indian team for the first time in the Asia Cup as their coach, said the tournament was "good for Asian nations. It will help in raising the standards in this region."

The Indian selectors would announce the final Asia Cup squad on July 7.

Following are the 20 probables: Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Parthiv Patel, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Ramesh Powar, Hemang K Badani, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, L Balaji, Amit Bhandari, Rohan Gavaskar.

Eight fast bowlers would also be part of the camp as support for the probables, namely Munaf Patel, rated highly as the future newball bowler by Aussie legend Dennis Lillee, Avishkar Salvi, S.S. Paul, Siddarth Trivedi, Sreesanth, Joginder Sharma, N.C.Aiyappa, Gagandeep Singh. -APP
