LAHORE: Protest against police

LAHORE, July 3: Activists of various labour and political parties on Saturday joined a journalists' protest against police failure to arrest those who assaulted newsmen at the Postmaster-General building on June 25.

They marched from the Lahore Press Club to the Governor's House where they presented a memorandum to the staff, demanding removal of Postal Services Director-General Lt-Gen Agha Masoodul Hassan (retired), Vigilance Wing Deputy Director Maj Mansoor Noor and other nominated accused.

PPP's Sajida Mir, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan's Shah Taj Qizalbash, South Asia Partnership's Irfan Mufti, Khaksar Tehrik's Hameed Mashriqi, Democratic Commission for Human Development's Tanvir Jahan, Postal Department Nop-Union Secretary Rana Ibad and World Punjabi Journalists' Mansoor Bokhari were among the speakers who demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

The participants also burnt effigies of the two principal accused.
