KARACHI, July 3: The chairman of Computer and Information Systems Engineering Department, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Prof Dr Shahid Hafeez Mirza, has been appointed as dean of the varsity's newly established faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Sources on the campus said the governor Sindh, who is also chancellor of the university, had ordered Dr Hafeez's appointment as dean for a period of three years, with effect from July 1.

The faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at present comprising departments of Electrical Engineering, Computer and Information Systems Engineering and Electronic Engineering Department started functioning from July 1, following the decision of the varsity syndicate.

In its meeting on June 9, the syndicate had approved the division of the then existing faculties of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering into two faculties. The second faculty - Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering - comprising Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Textile Engineering departments, at present was headed by Dr Muzaffar Mahmood.
