The houses from where bunkers and private checkpoints were removed include the Quetta residence of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani. " We are obeying the orders of the government," a senior police officer at the Bugti House said.

Heavy contingents of police and personnel of Balochistan Reserve Police have cordoned off the entire area along the Fatima Jinnah Road and Raisani Road. The armed guards of Bugti House and Raisani House did not offer any resistance.

"We have removed such posts and bunkers from houses of other tribal and political leaders in Quetta," a senior police officer said. The checkpoints and bunkers were also removed from the residence of Mr Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

Official sources said that display of arms have been banned by the government and law-enforcement agencies have been asked to take action against those found displaying arms in the city.

The road was closed for traffic by the Levies as the landmine was not defused till the filing of this report. Experts of the bomb disposal squad had been called in from Quetta to defuse the landmine.

Meanwhile, unknown persons fired at least six rockets at the Kohlu township late Thursday night, officials confirmed on Friday. No loss of life or property was reported as the rockets landed in abandoned spots, they said.

It was learnt that unknown persons also fired several rockets in the Sui area. Officials said that rockets were fired at an under construction police post construction police post in the Saghari area near the Sindh-Balochistan border.
