KARACHI, June 30: A Joint Doctors Action Committee on Wednesday criticized the attitude of intelligence agencies regarding the doctors who went missing sometime back.
A press release issued by the committee says that a couple of days back an official of Amnesty International told the general-secretary of the Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Sher Shah Syed, that Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed were in the custody of intelligence agencies.
"In order to give a different colour to their illegal act, the police raided the houses of Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed in Gulshan and Malir, respectively, last night. This harassed the families of the missing doctors even more," the press release says.
The release says that doctors feel very insecure because the intelligence agencies could implicate anybody in false cases. It adds that doctors will stage a demonstration in front of the Pakistan Medical Association House on Saturday at 4pm. Meanwhile, another press release of the Joint Action Committee says that the OPDs of the Jinnah Postgraduate Meidcal Centre will remain partly closed on Thursday.
