FAISALABAD, June 30: The annual budget of Rs2.64 billion for Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) and Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has been approved by the City Tehsil Municipal Administration here on Wednesday.

City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, in capacity of FDA chairman, presented the budget before a special session of the TMA presided over by convener Ilyas Ansari. Mr Cheema said the FDA would spend Rs609.4 million on different development projects of which Rs180 million had been allocated for the repair and construction of roads in the city.

He said a comprehensive plan had been chalked out for the promotion of education culture and increase in the education rate for which FDA would provide 110 million with the financial assistance of the district government.

He said FDA had allocated Rs98.4 million for the provision of basic amenities in katchi abadis. He said Rs70 million have been earmarked for the construction of new blocks in the Government College University. He said Rs80 million allocated for non-development expenditure would be collected through own resources of the FDA.

About the Wasa budget, the Nazim said new sewerage lines would be laid from Jaranwala Road to Satiana Road for which Rs100 million have been allocated, while Rs185.2 million would be spent under the water supply, sewerage and drainage project-III. Similarly, Rs30 million would be spent for re-laying sewerage lines of D-Type Colony.
