KARACHI, June 30: A young man was shot dead in Sharifabad on Wednesday night. Police said that Shakir, 25, was standing outside his house near Jhanda Chowk, where armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at him and escaped.
The wounded man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where he was referred to the JPMC. However, he died during treatment at the JPMC. Police termed the incident target killing. However, his political affiliation could not be known.
DOCTOR RECOVERED: A kidnapped doctor was recovered in a midnight raid conducted in Gulistan-i-Jauhar by a team of the CPLC and AVCC. A spokesman for the CPLC said that Dr Om Prakash was kidnapped from his apartment within Boat Basin police limits on June 7.
The kidnappers made two calls to the family demanding Rs8 million for his release. In the meantime, a team of anti-violent crime cell and CPLC was formed, which started surveillance of the area with the help of the cell phone signals and sophisticated equipment.
The raid was conducted in Chishti Nagar area of Gulistan-i- Jauhar, where an encounter took place with the kidnappers, the spokesman said. However, the kidnappers managed to escape in the darkness leaving behind the doctor.
ROBBERY: Armed bandits deprived a family of seven million rupees after holding the inmates hostage at gunpoint in Model Colony. Family sources said that Jehangir Mirza, owner of a construction company, had withdrawn Rs500,000 from a bank on Tuesday for the marriage ceremony of his cousin.
On early Wednesday morning, four bandits barged into the house, held the inmates at gunpoint and collected jewellry worth Rs6.5 million. They also took away Rs500,000 cash with them.
