SIALKOT, June 29: On the orders of Sialkot additional district and sessions judge, the Naikapura police have registered a case against 10 police officials, including three SHOs, for keeping a citizen in illegal detention and torturing him.

The case was registered against SHO of Naikapura police station Inspector Zafar Iqbal, Hajipura police station SHO Inspector Rana Zahid Husain, Rangpura police station SHO Inspector Asif Hanif Joiya, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Aslam and six constables on the complaint of Imran.

No arrest has yet been reported. Meanwhile, on the orders of Pasrur additional district and sessions judge, the Sabzpeer police have registered a case against Bambaanwala police station's ASI Khadim Husain, councillor Muhammad Sarwar, woman councillor Ms Sughra and four others for robbing the dowry worth Rs200,000 of two daughters of a widow Sakina.

According to the FIR, the accused illegally occupied the 70-year-old widow's house. They also banned the entry of her family in their native village Khara. The widow moved the district court and the judge ordered a case against the accused. No arrest has yet been made.

COMPENSATION: Cheques worth Rs2.2 million were distributed among 78 poor farmers of Shakargarh sector's border villages. The farmers suffered loss during 2002-03 Indo-Pakistan tension on Sialkot working boundary. Official sources said farmers of Sialkot and Narowal districts would soon be given financial compensation by the government.

HELP DESK: A 'help desk' has been set up at the Sialkot Dry port Trust for providing guidance to the tax payers. According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, customs additional collector Raja Tahir Majeed would be the in charge of the desk.
