KARACHI, June 29: The City Council on Tuesday continued to debate on deteriorated law and order situation arising out from recent spate of terrorism activities in the city, terming it a total failure of the government to protect the life and property of common man.
The council members, who mostly discussed the law and order situation, also expressed their concern over the tragic death of a boy in the Allah Din park, held the park administration responsible for the tragedy, demanding a probe into the incident for the immediate arrest of culprits for their negligence in providing emergency treatment to the victim.
Saeed Ghani, leader of the Awam Dost Panel, speaking in the council on law and order situation, severely criticized the government's alleged role in the murder of Abdullah Murad Baloch and Munawwar Suhrawardy, besides other terrorist acts in the city.
He claimed that the government knew about the killers of Munawwar Suhrawardy, as according to him, all the activities of the slain PPP leader were being monitored by intelligence agencies.
"How it is possible that the person, who was under constant observation of security agencies was killed in broad daylight and the killers escaped from the spot," he asked.
He said that Mr Suhrawardy, prior to his murder, had informed New Police Station about some suspicious people, chasing his car for the last many days, but regretted that no step was taken for his security.
Expressing concern over the recent rocket attack in the city, he said it had exposed the government's claim about 'improved' law and order situation. Noor Jokhio from the Awam Dost Panel, commenting on political situation in the country, said that there was no rule of law in country as one 'defaulter' was going to assume the office of the chief executive of the country.
He demanded placement of police department under city nazim's control to free it from political influence. "Unless police is given in the control of the city nazim, the law and order situation would continue to deteriorate."
Rehana Afroz, Najmi Alam, Tahira Kokab, Shafia Ahmed, Abdur Rashid and Qazi Saddaruddin, participating in the debate, severely criticized the government's failure in controlling the law and order situation in the city.
Later, the council adopted three different resolutions, demanding a complete ban on illegal hydrants in the city, damaging the city roads, besides endangering the lives of people due to the movement of water tankers, to and from these hydrants. -PPI
