RAWALPINDI, June 28: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have been directed to make "unprecedented security" arrangements for the Parliament House during a special National Assembly (NA) session to be held on Tuesday for election of new leader of the House
, an official source said.
The source said the police had been issued directions in this regard by the NA secretary and the interior ministry. About 1,000 security officials, including the special branch and police personnel, are being deployed for the security of Parliament House, he added.
In another related move, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazalur Rehman, has demanded that the government should make special arrangements for his security during his movement in Islamabad.
The source said the Maulana made the demand after he was sent back to Islamabad from Karachi. However, he did not specify whether he had received any threat.
