SARGODHA: Confusion ahead of fresh budget meeting

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, June 28: There is a lot of confusion in the district about the fate of the budget, as District Nazim Malik Amjad Ali and Naib Nazim Chaudhry Hamid Saleem Warriach have stuck to their guns over the issue.

The Nazim claims that the budget, which was presented few days ago, was approved by a majority of the members in the house, but the Naib Nazim insists that he had adjourned for Tuesday the meeting in the wake of chaos. Therefore, he said, the budget was neither presented nor voted.

He accused the Nazim of showing biased attitude against those, who had criticized his policies based on 'nepotism.' The Nazim's rivals opposed the budget by calling it discriminatory.

Meanwhile, Dr Zulfikar Ali Bhatti, who claims that he is the spokesman of the Nazim group, alleged that the Naib Nazim (also convener) was not performing his duties impartially.

He said legally the budget meeting could not be adjourned and there was no justification to call the meeting again. He announced that members of the treasury benches would not attend the meeting.

The Naib Nazim defended his case and pledged that the meeting would be held according to schedule. He denied that he had become a pawn in the hands of parliamentarians.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Nazim had convinced the Naib Nazim to hold a meeting at the circuit house instead of the assembly hall to avoid disturbance. According to some lawyers, the convener was not justified in adjourning the budget meeting. However, they said, once the decision had been taken the meeting should be called afresh.
