BANNU, June 26: Eight children and a woman were wounded and three houses partially damaged when unidentified assailants fired three missiles at the Bannu cantonment on Friday night.
The missiles fired from an unspecified location at around 11.15pm hit the residential area and partially damaged some houses, officials said.
One of the missiles hit the boundary wall of a house in the Amandi Gulbadan Shah area. Six children and a woman in the house were injured by flying debris.
The injured children were identified as Naznin and Zeenat, d/o of Omar Ayaz; Aisha and Sitara, d/o of Misal Khan; Salma, d/o of Israr Khan, and Imran, s/o Sher Gul. The woman was identified as Mehr Anwar, w/o Sher Gul.
The second missile landed inside the Bannu Fort, smashing windowpanes.
The third one hit the residence of Agha Jan at Saddar Bazaar, leaving two children injured. Their names could not be ascertained.
The injured were taken to the CMH and DHQ hospitals where they received the first aid before being discharged.
The three explosions were heard far and wide, creating panic among people. Police and army officials arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area.
The police registered a case against unidentified assailants and beefed up security in the city.
On Friday, the law-enforcement agencies personnel had found 10 Russian-made missiles near the cantonment area.
