CM vows to honour MMA's decisions

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, June 25: The NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani, has said he will honour the decisions of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal which has elected him as the chief minister of the province.

He was talking to journalists here at the provincial assembly building on Friday.

Mr Durrani said that the MMA had asked him to abstain from the meeting of the National Security Council convened by President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

"It is binding upon me to abide by all the decisions taken by the MMA's supreme council. The six-party alliance had awarded me a ticket and then secured the chief minister's slot for me," he said.

Highlighting his political background, he said that he did not think that he made a mistake by abstaining from the NSC meeting. He said that the leader of the opposition, too, had boycotted the meeting, adding that it should all be taken in a good spirit.

Mr Durrani said being the chief executive of the province, he knew his priorities about what he should do.

Referring to the president's remarks, he recalled that he did not mind the harsh remarks the president had made during a visit to the province a few months ago, adding that at that time, the president was a guest. Political parties, he said, took issues in a political manner and not personally, he added.
