KARACHI, June 25: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan has announced that the city government would undo the illegal occupation of plots of cottage industries by land mafia so that this sector could progress and employment opportunities were made available to the people.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the nazim at Civic Centre here on Thursday night.
The meeting which lasted three hours was attended by DCO and other senior officials besides chairmen of 32 committees of the City Council.
It was decided that CDGK hospitals and dispensaries would be surveyed for an assessment of their performance whereas health department would submit a report to the nazim about closed dispensaries in various localities.
An inquiry committee will also be set up for scrutinizing the complaints against city government officials and employees.
The meeting decided that headway would be made for assigning complete powers to the CDGK for instituting legal action against alleged slaughter of dead animals and sale of their meat, to transfer authority with regard to New Sabzimandi to city nazim and devolving the Kutchi Abadis Authority into the city government.
The nazim said that the city government was carrying out works on playgrounds for their development. City games would soon be organized as an amount of Rs5 million had been earmarked for the purpose.
Niamatullah Khan ruled out any differences between the city council and city government and said both were working for the progress of the metropolis.
He directed the concerned officials that treatment facilities be provided to people at the city government dispensaries in residential areas and presence of staff and doctors there be ensured.
The meeting appreciated the performance of fire brigade and works & services departments while criticizing certain EDOs after it was pointed out that they did not spare time for committee chairmen.
The DCO held out the assurance that effective liaison between public representatives and officials would be ensured for the solution of problems being faced by people.
It would be made mandatory for all EDOs to extend their full cooperation to the committee chairmen and take action on their monitoring reports prepared on the basis of their observations and assessments.
The DCO said that due to the personal interest of the city nazim, such a large number of development work had been undertaken. He also pledged that toilets for women councillors at the old KMC building would be constructed.
The city nazim constituted a committee to get the resolutions of city council implemented and to establish liaison between the nazim and committee chairmen with the coordination of Saifuddin advocate. - APP
