LDA's deficit budget approved

LAHORE, June 24: The Lahore Development Authority's governing body on Thursday approved a deficit budget for the next fiscal, showing Rs5.1 billion income against an estimated expenditure of Rs6.35 billion.
The LDA Urban Development Wing's revenue from development is estimated at Rs1.31 billion and Rs668.4 million from non-development sources. The development expenditure is estimated at Rs1.37 billion and non-development Rs589 million.
The authority has earmarked Rs795 million for the development of the LDA Avenue, Rs11 million for completion of Jubilee Town development works, Rs231.6 million for work in Johar Town, Rs100 million for Sabzazar Phase-II, Rs20 million for Mohlanwal Scheme and Rs5 million for Mustafa Town.
Besides, Rs30 million will be spent on the construction of the LDA school in Johar Town and Rs3 million on a plaza in Gulberg and maintenance of buildings. The governing body approved Rs6.5 million for priority works and Rs160 million for construction and maintenance of roads in Model Town Extension Scheme, Faisal Town, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Sabza Zar Phase-1, Tajpura, Gujjarpura, Johar Town Phase-1, Township, Mustafa Town and Mohlanwal Scheme.
WASA: The Water and Sanitation Agency's revenue during the year is estimated at Rs2.96 billion against an estimated expenditure of Rs4.02 billion. It includes revamp of sewerage and drainage on the Circular Road, laying of sewerage lines on both sides of the canal, improvement of stormwater drainage in low-lying areas and comprehensive planning for southern Lahore.
The agency will also sink 10 new tubewells in various parts of the provincial metropolis, and lay new sewerage lines from Badami Bagh to Main Outfall after improving its pumping capacity.
Work will also be started on a Rs150 million comprehensive drainage project for northern Lahore.
Ongoing sewerage and drainage schemes in Yohanabad and Bund Road will be completed. A sum of Rs385 million has been earmarked for providing water supply and drainage facilities to the LDA Avenue and Rs85 million for other development works.
TEPA: The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency's revenue during the next financial year is estimated at Rs170 million and expenditure at Rs384.9 million.
The agency will complete the remaining works of the Cavalary Ground flyover and acquire land for the second pase of the southern bypass, besides building an underpass on the Ferozepur Road. It will also link the Johar Town main road to the Maulana Shaukat Ali Road through the Shaukat Khanum Hospital.
The Jinnah Hospital and the Government College University chowks will be remodelled while the M.M.Alam Road stretch between Husain Chowk and Gulberg Main Market improved.
District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood presided over the meeting, which was also attended by LDA DG Akhlaq Tarrar, DCO Khalid Sultan, Tepa MD Brig Muhammad Yousaf (retired), Wasa MD Inam Qadir, town Nazims, and representatives of the provincial housing, finance, planning and development, and local government departments.
