DARWIN, June 23: Australian Test opener Justin Langer is in doubt for the Northern Territory Chief Minister's XI four-day match against the touring Sri Lanka side here on Thursday after injuring his left foot in training.

Langer was to lead the NT team ahead of the two-Test series with Sri Lanka beginning here on July 1. However, Langer limped from the ground during Wednesday's training after he was struck on the top of his left foot by a yorker.

NT chairman of selectors Les Garraway said Langer was taken to hospital for a precautionary X-ray. "We have taken a precaution with our physiotherapist and also Cricket Australia to have this X-ray," he said. "He was able to walk to the car. The ankle is bandaged up."

Garraway said the foot was iced after it was hit twice in the same spot during practice. "We are hopeful and very confident Justin Langer will open the batting for us tomorrow," he said.

The 13-man Chief Minister's XI team is Justin Langer (captain), Ian Redpath, Darren Treumer, Simon Katich, Glen McGrath, Rhett Bowden, Greg Brautigam, Anthony Dent, Terry Bayly, Ken Skewes, Martin Brown, Ashley Williams, Shane Chatto. -AFP
