ISLAMABAD June 23: Prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Wednesday directed the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) to prepare and submit in four weeks a comprehensive report on its future plans of providing alternative energy in the areas which were far from national grid.

Premier Jamali had set up the AEDB as part of his vision 2015 with Air Marshal (retd) Shahid Hamid as its first chairman. The premier also asked the board to engage itself in negotiations with the Global Environmental Fund (GEF) to which Pakistan was a signatory.

The Fund could provide vital financial and technical help in expanding the scope of alternative energy production in the country. Earlier, the premier was given a detailed briefing by the AEDB on its performance so far.
