LAHORE, June 21: Equipment had been provided to the army to execute relief operations during the expected rainy and flood season, Punjab Revenue Minister Gul Hamid Rokhri said on Monday.

He told newsmen in his Punjab Assembly chambers that arrangements had been finalized by the Punjab government and the district administration to meet any eventuality.

Mr Rokhri said 380 ordinary, 336 fibre glass and 15 rubber boats had been placed at the disposal of the army besides 8,232 life jackets, tents, blankets and de watering pumps. Another 85 fibre glass boats were being arranged.

He said 892 multi-purpose boats had been handed over to the army while another 99 would shortly be procured after standardization.

The minister said 4,920 tents and 7,400 blankets had also been placed at the disposal of the district coordination officers. The City District Government and Wasa had been given 430 de watering pumps while another 65 sets had been handed over to other districts.
