SWABI, June 21: The tehsil municipal administration has allocated Rs10.72 million for salaries of surplus employees, which has put an additional financial burden on the Tehsil government and urban councils.
Officials said on Monday that the amount would be used for payment of salaries to about 66 surplus employees in financial year 2004-2005. Sources said they had been declared surplus three-year ago and the government had not yet adjusted them.
Sources said that the TMA had already informed the provincial authorities that they should be adjusted because delay would mean more financial burden. They said that they had also informed officials concerned that the TMA would be forced to fire the surplus staff if the government failed to adjust them by the next financial year.
Surplus employees said they should be adjusted according to the pledges made by the government. They said that they would approach to the service tribunal if the TMA fired them.
However, they said they have enough political affiliations which was the boosting point for them. They were quite confident that no one could fire them.
DEMAND: The Tehsil Council continued to discuss the new budget 2004-05 here on Monday with the opposition members calling for an equal distribution of development funds.
The opposition members alleged that since the devolution of power, the TMA had failed to distribute funds according to the needs of 39 union councils. Women councillors have also expressed doubts over the distribution of funds.
Tehsil Nazim Masood Jabar said he would not differentiate between the opposition and treasury benches, adding that union councils needing more attention would get a major share.
