HYDERABAD: Shortage of water persists

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, June 19: Parts of the city are braving a shortage of water as the WASA has failed to ensure regular supply due to frequent power breakdowns.

The people are forced to buy water from tanker operators.

A WASA official claimed that on Friday there was no electricity at two filter plants between 5:30pm to 7:45pm.

The power outage was also reported at the Fatima Jinnah road and the Pucca Qilla water works.

The official argued that non-supply of electricity caused a major disruption in the water supply, leading to complaints by residents.

The residents of union council-5 claimed that they were not getting regular water supply despite holding several protest demonstrations.

INTER-CITY COACHES: Passengers on Saturday faced problems after the regional transport authority cancelled stops of inter- city coaches at Latifabad-7, Hussainabad and Qasim chowk.

A transporter said that the traffic police in charge did not allow buses to make these brief stops to pick up passengers.

The passengers who arrived at these stops had to board rickshaws to take Karachi-bound buses.

The transporter claimed that bus operators were asked by the RTA and police to have their own plots in the city or use the government-run general bus stand.
