KHAIRPUR, June 17: Consumers took to the streets and held protest demonstrations in different cities and towns of interior of Sindh against Hesco.

In Gambat and Kingri talukas of the Khairpur district, people protested against Hesco for resorting to load-shedding and not repairing faulty transformers.

On the appeal of the Shehri Ittehad, a trading centre in the Kingri taluka was closed for the second consecutive day. Later, area residents blocked the Ahmadpur-Khairpur road and held a demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the protesters said daily load-shedding for eight to 10 hours in the extreme heat had paralyzed life and business activities. A demonstration was also held in the Mohammad Larik village, near Ripri, Gambat.

The villagers held another demonstration outside the Hesco office, Gambat. Talking to journalists, Manzoor Hussain Larik and others said a transformer of the village had been out of order for one month but no steps had been taken by officials concerned to restore supply of electricity to the area.

The residents called off their protest after the Gambat Hesco SDO directed the officials to resolve the issue. Villagers of Wada Machiyoon, Kingri, also protested against Hesco by holding a demonstration. They demanded an end to the loadshedding.
