KARACHI, June 16: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Wednesday the a two-week national camp in preparation for next month's Asia Cup in Sri Lanka will be held in Lahore from June 28.
Shaharyar M. Khan, the PCB chief, told reporters that all players selected for the camp will have to undergo fitness tests before the final squad is picked by the national selection committee, headed by Wasim Bari.
"I have already instructed the selectors to ensure a well tuned squad is picked with the main emphasis on its fitness. We can't afford the luxury of having injured players sitting around," he said.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, as expected will not take part in the six-team Asia Cup tournament, which is being revived after two years. "We have been informed by Durham (Shoaib's county) that Shoaib will participate in the Asia Cup in order to achieve full fitness before the ICC Champions Trophy in England later this year," the PCB chief said. "But even then Shoaib will have to prove his fitness before he is considered for selection."
