QUETTA June 16: The Vice-Chancellors' Council has suggested to the government to upgrade the Bolan Medical Collage Quetta to a medical university and expand its programme of courses.

The council held its meeting here on Wednesday, headed by provincial Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani who is also chairman of the council. The members reviewed progress on the various ongoing development schemes of the four universities of Balochistan.

The Council suggested that a veterinary programme should also be started at BMC University, and these proposals would be considered in detail in the next meeting of the council.

The Vice Chancellor of the Sardar Bahadur Khan Woman University, Dr Mrs Shahida Jaffery, informed the meeting that classes in eight different subjects have been launched in the university for which all the required staff including teachers have been appointed.

A modern institute of Home Economics would also be set up, she said and construction of the boundary walls and work on beautification of the building was in progress.

Dr Mohammad Abbas Chaudhary, the Vice Chancellor Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences told the meeting that the renovation work at Bolan Textile Mill premises, which has recently been handed over to BUITMS, is in progress. He hoped that the classes would commence there by September.
