President, PM vow to fight terrorism

RAWALPINDI, June 11: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who met here on Friday, reiterated their resolve to intensify efforts for combating terrorism and religious extremism in the country.

They decided to redouble efforts to avoid the recurrence of such incidents. The president and the prime minister called upon the people to remain calm and united to foil the designs of the terrorists.

They directed the law-enforcement agencies to step up efforts to arrest those involved in such crimes and award them exemplary punishment. The two leaders took stock of the economic situation in the country in the context of the forthcoming budget and discussed various proposals in this regard.

They underscored the need to pass on the fruits of economic development, particularly the macro-economic stability achieved in recent years, to the common man.

They expressed their satisfaction with the 'agriculture package' announced on Thursday. They exchanged views on the international and regional geostrategic situation and the political environment in the country. -APP
