Curfew relaxed for nine hours in Gilgit

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, June 11: The authorities extended the curfew break to nine hours on the ninth day here on Friday in two different intervals, the first from 5am to 10am and the second from 3pm to 7pm.

No untoward incident took place during the relaxation, officials said. Security forces maintained their routine patrolling during the curfew break. The University Road remained closed for all sorts of traffic due to unrest in Chilmisdas.

In Gilgit, 70 per cent of shops remained closed during the curfew break. Meanwhile, over 10,000 employees of private and public sector in Gilgit were unable to draw their salaries on Friday as all the banks and the AGPR sub-office here remained closed despite assurances from the authorities that during the curfew break, banks would be allowed to make transactions.
