Notice issued to AG on petition against LFO

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 11: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Attorney General of Pakistan on a review petition filed against the Legal Framework Order (LFO).

A three-member SC bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, was hearing the review petition of Barrister Zafarullah moved on behalf of Watan Party. The bench later adjourned the matter. The date for the next hearing would be decided later.

Barrister Zafarullah in the review petition had prayed before the apex court to review its October 7, 2002 judgment of dismissing the earlier petition against the LFO and hear afresh the constitutional petition in which the vires of LFO was assailed.

In response to a query by the chief justice whether or not the case has become infructous after the 17th constitutional amendment under which the LFO has become part of the constitution, the petitioner argued that the amendment had created certain lacunas in different provisions of the 1973 constitution and therefore needed to be addressed immediately.
