Pro-US policies blamed for attack

By Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, June 10: The vice-president of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, Sindh, Sardar Abdul Rahim, has said that Thursday's attack on an army convoy in Karachi is the outcome of the government's pro-American policies.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, he said that the government had totally failed to maintain law and order in the country. Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leaders Malik Naeem Awan and Afzal Gujjar were also present on the occasion.

Mr Raheim said that under the circumstances, President Gen Pervez Musharraf should resign forthwith. He said that the resignation of former Sindh chief minister, Ali Mohammad Mahar would not make even the slightest difference because there was no government in Sindh.

He said that army dictators were ruling over the entire country. He said that it was difficult for an ordinary Pakistani to pass through Clifton area which had only been reserved for Americans.

He said that the attack on an army convey in the area had clearly proved that despite the use of guns, the writ of the government had disappeared. He said that the Wana operation was being carried out at the behest of America.

Condemning the supply of poisonous water to the people that claimed many precious lives, Sardar Rahim accused the government and its organisations of criminal negligence.

He demanded that officials concerned should be hanged for mass murders. He expressed a pleasant surprise that patients admitted to the Liaquat University Hospital were being provided the best available treatment.

ATTACK CONDEMNED: The Shia Ulema Council, Hyderabad chapter, has condemned the attack on personnel of law-enforcement agencies in Karachi and expressed condolence on the loss of lives in the attack.

In a joint statement issued here on Thursday, Allama Altaf Al-Hussaini, Kazim Hussain Shah Naqvi, Nizamul Haideri, Hakeem Abrar Hussain and others demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
