LAHORE, June 10: The Lahore district council opposition and the Jamaat-i-Islami will stage demonstrations to protest the imposition of 30 per cent sanitation fee on water supply bills in all the towns of the provincial metropolis.
Leader of the Opposition Navid Sadiq Khan told Dawn that the first demonstration would be held in front of the Lahore Press Club in Data Ganj Bakhsh Town on June 14, the second in Ravi Town on June 17, the third in Shalimar Town on June 20, the fourth in Allama Iqbal Town on June 25, the fifth in Aziz Bhatti Town on July 1 and the sixth and the last one in Nishtar Town on July 11.
He said the opposition would not only stage demonstrations against the imposition of sanitation fee in towns but in front of the Jinnah Hall as well at the time of presentation of city district budget by District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood.
It would also organize a convention of citizens on the issue. He said that imposition of sanitation fee was a case of double taxation because Lahorites were already paying property tax for meeting the sanitation expenditure.
