ISLAMABAD, June 9: Secretary-General Pakistan Muslim League-N Saranjam Zamindar says Pakistani forces have full support of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) government in the NWFP in the ongoing operation in tribal areas.
In a statement issued by the party's office here on Wednesday, the PML-N secretary-general said the MMA leaders were only verbally opposing the ongoing operation in Wana and practically they were facilitating the government.
He said the MMA leadership would be answerable to the people in the next general elections. He condemned the inhuman treatment of the tribal people in the name of operation, which had been launched only to please the United States.
He said the security forces launched a house to house search in the tribal areas, but they found nothing. He said the Wana operation had failed right from the first day.
Had the personnel and officials of the intelligence agencies been efficient, there would have no need for launching the military operation on such a large scale only to arrest a handful of foreigners, he said.
The PML-N secretary general said the Wana operation was part of the election campaign for US President George Bush. He demanded immediate end to the ongoing operation in tribal areas. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Pakistan Railways Union, headed by union's secretary-general Ishtiaq Aasi, called on PML-N information secretary Siddiqul Farooque.
