HYDERABAD: Improvement urged in teaching of physiology

HYDERABAD, June 9: The president of the Pakistan Physiological Society, Dr Mohammad Ayub Khan, has emphasised the use of latest methods for teaching the subject of physiology.
He was speaking at a symposium organised by the Hyderabad chapter of the Physiological Society of Pakistan at the Isra University here on Tuesday. The theme of the symposium was "Innovating Physiology Teaching".
He said that the problem-based learning was the best method of learning the subject. At the symposium, two scientific sessions were held which were conducted by Dr Kamal Ansari, former dean, postgraduate studies, Baqai Medical University; Dr Touseef Ahmed, assistant professor, Ziauddin Medical University; and Dr Mevo Khan Zardari, in charge, Physiology department, Peoples Medical College.
Dr Ansari delivered a lecture on "Physiology: Step Child of Sciences" and criticized the teachers for failing to motivate the students to take interest in the subject and for misusing audio visual aids.
Dr Parvez Sandeelo read a paper on "Physiology Practical Examinations" and said that experiments should continue on animals whereas Dr Asmat Kamal Ansari spoke on the subject of "Physiology Practicals Need Revolution". Others speakers included Dr Ghulam Mustafa Sehar and Dr Furqan Ahmed.
