HYDERABAD, June 8: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed here on Monday notified the formation of the Water Quality Management Committee to ensure supply of safe water by the Water and Sanitation Agency to the city.

Iqbal Ahmed Khawaja, Additional Managing Director, Wasa; is the convener of the committee, Sohail Yazdani, Superintending Engineer, Hyderabad Development Authority; its secretary and Mohammad Haroon Chang, director, Water and Drainage Research Centre, Tando Jam; Dr Ashfaq Bhutto, district officer (preventive) health department; Mashood Ahmed Siddiqui, Assistant Director, Environment Protection Agency; and the nominees of the district naib nazim and City, Latifabad and Qasimabad taluka nazims are its members.

The committee will collect samples from different distribution points and get them analysed from Wasa laboratories. It will ensure safe supply of water and suggest necessary action when a problem arises. It will also submit proposals for improvement of water supply system of Hyderabad.

The DCO also set up the Water Crisis Management Cell to resolve the water crisis and create coordination among relevant departments/agencies to ensure supply of clean water from the supply sources of Wasa.

The deputy district officer (coordination) is the coordinator of the cell. In yet another development, the DCO notified that the District Health Committee had been constituted to take appropriate measures related to health and hygiene and provide guidance to different departments related to water supply for domestic use.

It will take preventive measures in case any contamination, pollution is found in the water at upstream of the River Indus/Akram Wah, downstream of the river at intake point of Latifabad and various distribution outlets of Wasa.

The DCO is the chairman and the EDO, health, secretary of the committee while the HDA DG, the director of Water and Drainage Research Centre, deputy chief engineer of Hyderabad SITE, Wasa MD; executive engineers (irrigation) of Akram Wah division and Kotri Barrage, assistant director of the EPA and president of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry are its members.

RESULTS: The controller of examinations, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, has announced results of diploma in medical radio diagnosis, part-I, diploma in psychiatric medicine, part-I, and diploma in nuclear medicine, part-II.
